The Newest Class — 2026
The Class of 2026 was inducted on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Superior Catering UAW Hall in Baltimore. The ten members are:
The Neil Rivers Award
Every year, Kenwood gives the Neil Rivers Memorial Award to the senior athlete who best shows integrity, dedication, a strong work ethic, and commitment to the school and to their teams.
The award is named for James Neil Rivers Jr., Kenwood Class of 2003. Neil played three sports at Kenwood — soccer, wrestling, and baseball. He died on January 20, 2006, at age 20.
In 2026, Neil was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame with the Class of 2026. His induction was the final award presented at the October 8, 2026 ceremony — a fitting honor for a young man whose name already means so much at Kenwood.
In short: Neil Rivers was a Kenwood athlete whose character set the standard. The school still measures its best senior athletes against it.

About the Hall
The Kenwood High School Athletics Hall of Fame honors the Bluebirds athletes, coaches, and teams whose excellence brought pride to Kenwood athletics. Kenwood High School is at 501 Stemmers Run Road, Essex, Maryland 21221. The school opened in 1931, and its motto is “Knowledge, Honor, Service.”
How the Hall Started
In 2007, two Kenwood coaches — Lefty Elliott and Carroll Hess — proposed an Athletics Hall of Fame to Athletic Director Derek Maki, who served as AD from 2001 to 2014. A committee was formed, and the first class was inducted that same year. Both Elliott and Hess are in that first Class of 2007. More than 150 people and teams were enshrined through 2022, and the Hall now holds 177 members.
